Can someone tell me or give me a link to what I need to do to clean a DeVilbiss Plus. I dont want to use it until I know how to clean it.

Spray gun cleaning.

I currently own DeVilbiss, SATA, and Iwata gravity fed guns, (Along with a couple Graco pump style set ups mated to conversion guns, and two Kremlin air mix set ups.) I have sprayed with just about every type of gun and finish. The cleaning procedure is about the same for all of them.
This is the key, buy a gun cleaning kit first off. This is just a kit of different sized brushes and some lubricant. Once you have finished spraying. Clean out any unused material and properly dispose of it if it is catalyzed. Remove the cup from the gun, and wash it thoroughly with a good cleaning thinner or acetone, making sure you clean around the cap. (I hate it when someone lazy leaves a build up around the cap and you get crap falling into your finish as it flakes off.) Remove the air cap and put it into a small container of thinner. Remove the fluid nozzle and place it in the container. Remove the spray needle and put it in the same container. Placing the fluid chamber in the thinner scrub it lightly with your brushes until you have removed all of the finish residue. Remove the residue from the other components and re-assemble. The spray needle will need to be lubricated where it slides against the spring in the rear assembly, and where it contacts the inlet of the fluid chamber. (This is key on an Iwata since the fluid needle will not slide smoothly and can stick wide open when you don't want it to.) Do not immerse the entire gun in thinner. That will Kill a DeVilbiss quick. (Most guns in fact.) Once you are clean and reassembled, set it aside until next time.

Sounds like it does not take much. The cleaning kit I have. I bought the gun new on ebay with the cup, air gauge, 1.2,1.3, 1.4 fluid tips, 9 disposable cup e-z liners, cleaning kit & gun hook for $250 after shipping. So I am set after I get some thinner. Can any type of oil be used for the lubricant... something like wd-40? Thank you for your help.

NOOOOO! WD-40 will contaminate your paint. You can lubricate the trigger and non-paint contact points with air tool lubricant. DO NOT lubricate the air inlet on a spray gun. The needle should be lubricated with spray needle lubricant. It looks like a thick gritty Vaseline. It stays put and will not contaminate your paint. You might, I stress might, be able to use petroleum jelly. I have never tried it out.

sounds good but hold the cap up to the light to see if any holes are clogged then use a wooden tooth pick to clean them .....and most important, always use the wrench to remove the fluid nozzle and never pliers ...the nozzle seats against the cap and this will ruin it....Its the first thing I check when buying a used gun, you'd be surprised how many have plier marks on them...It might be a good idea to check yours..there should be two machined seats on the nozzle..
