the muncie is very hard to kill and will take muck more than 300 Hp, infact a m-22 will safely handle upwards of 600 hp. But if you want to do yourself a big favour, find a t-56 6-speed out of a new gen f-body, it wil take what ever you throw at it. and the 0.68 od ratio will allow you to run the 4.10 gearing you wanted.. and still turn decent rpm on the highway

 

...are you sure its a muncie? if its the original tranny in that car i beleive it would be a borg-warner super t-10

 

chevy didn't use borgs till 74, z- has a muncie, my wife had one back then and i spent a lot of time under the damn thing fixing clutch and trans problems, she has a ten lb. foot and likes to see tire smoke!!!!!!!

 

chevy used BW t10's from ? to 64 then muncie to 74? and BW SUPER T10 1975 up. they upgraded the original BW T10 everyyear to match the engine and finally GM made the muncie that could handle the power untill the smog dogs of 75 and went back to the weaker BW T10 with "super" added to the name, dont know if super t10 is better than old t10

 

If it's truly a Muncie, then you should be able to hit 400-450hp without any problems. However, since it's an 80 Z28...I highly doubt you have a Muncie unless someone put it in the car before you bought it.

Yeah, what he said....^ You could also touch on what kind of torque/hp and what the intended use of the "454" is going to be.

Depending on what your doing with the 454 and the car, you could reliably and quite easily bust up any of the aforementioned OEM Trannys and clutches on a weekly basis.
