I got a 1980 Z28 with a muncie 4-speed. I was told that u can't run more than 300hp with a stock muncie and if u want to run more than 300hp u can by another trany case that is stronger that will fit 4-speed. I would like to keep the 4 speed. Is it possible to build the trany stronger?
or am I better off getting a new one like a 5-speed or something?

(I'm going to put a 454 in the car)

the muncie is very hard to kill and will take muck more than 300 Hp, infact a m-22 will safely handle upwards of 600 hp. But if you want to do yourself a big favour, find a t-56 6-speed out of a new gen f-body, it wil take what ever you throw at it. and the 0.68 od ratio will allow you to run the 4.10 gearing you wanted.. and still turn decent rpm on the highway

chevy used BW t10's from ? to 64 then muncie to 74? and BW SUPER T10 1975 up. they upgraded the original BW T10 everyyear to match the engine and finally GM made the muncie that could handle the power untill the smog dogs of 75 and went back to the weaker BW T10 with "super" added to the name, dont know if super t10 is better than old t10
