I have been looking for a 700r4 and i have run into a problem. Is there different ones? Some i have seen for sale have been behind s-10 pickups with V-6 engines. Some are advertised with a small bell housing. I am needing one to go behind a 406 sbc. any advise?

The difference is the 60° or 90° bell housing bolt pattern, the 90° V6 trannies are a little different than V8 trannies inside, (less clutches), but that can be changed during the rebuild process if desired.

87 to 03 is actually a 4L60, prior versions were the 700R4. They are commonly all lumped together as 700R4s though. Earlier versions had a 27 spline input and a 7 vane pump, 4L60s had a 30 spline input and a 10 vane pump. ;)

And to think all most every one said hotrodders used 350's cause they were cheap and every thing was interchangeable not like the 302 FORD I am using .three different bell housings :D oh don't all you chevy boys jump on me now cause i'm just pulling your chain a little  yea the last three rods I built had 350's one with a 350 tranny the orthers 700r4 . The bell housings were on the things when I got them so I did learn some thing today.
