More Z-Bar Troubles

I have a ’64 Nova SS that I’m putting a GM 350 HO / 330 HP crate engine in. I’m having a problem with the Z-bar (bellcrank). I can’t seem get it into proper position, any which way I try. It doesn’t rotate freely and has limited travel. I’m using the conversion bracket (Classic Industries PN NJG30) that’s supposed to locate the engine side pivot ball in the same location as on the stock 283 early Novas. I have the longer motor mount installed on the driver’s side. Also, the transmission mounting holes align perfectly with the crossmember.
I think that the pivot ball might be too far forward (?) and the centerline through the z-bar doesn’t align with the centerline of the pivot shaft. So the z-bar approaches the pivot shaft at an angle (approx 25deg) and ‘bottoms out’ on the pivot shaft and therefore wont completely accept the pivot shaft. Even when I release the end of the z-bar bar from the frame bracket, I still cant seat the other end on the bar on the shaft. I’ve attached some pics to try & help to illustrate the problem.
Has anyone had this problem? Am I doing something wrong? I have the new crate motor about to fire up, but won’t be able to drive it.

Thanks
