Hi guys & girls, this is my 1968 GMC, no motor, has original 4spd. Looking for ideas/suggestions. Im on a budget as a single dad with 4 kids. So high dollar stuff is out. Thanks in advance.

Find a cheap small block, keep the factory color with white grille and bumpers, white lettered tires on white steel wheels and the white GMC hub caps, lower it and drive it, drive it, drive it. Later on swap the 4 speed for a 5 speed out of a '88-'99 to help the gas mileage.

I would go along with what Hippie said and say that a truck like that one gets running and usable then takes care of any other things that need fixing..Long term one of those can be made quite nice..

Well i did think of that & i do have a 283 & a 307 to play with for the vintage part. Its drums all around but i did just scrap a 79 chev 1/2ton that i could get the front suspension & k frame from. Also the blue is not the original color, here's a pic with the original color.

Should i go back to the original color?

It is pretty straight all things considered. The fenders have a little rust at the bottoms, rockers and cab corners are pretty good, box has a few little dents & the wood floor needs to be redone. The worst part is the cab floor, its worse than i originally thought.
Im not a green person, neither was the guy that repainted it i guess but that shade looks like it might not be that bad shiny.
Any ideas on inexpensive & clean ways to relocate the gas tank?

'67 Tahitian Turquoise would look great with that interior color and a set of 6 bolt truck rally wheels but needs the stainless trim and chrome bumpers to really look good and that adds expense. I'm partial to the sky blue and white "Plain Jane" combo but it's not my truck. ;)

you can use a suburban tank(73-91) iirc(i know that you can for sure on 73-87s) for a rear mounted tank but there 25 gallon(i thought for some reason that it was 20 when I got it).If you need the deminisons ill get them for you from the tank that i have stowed away(planning to use for a shrotbed 73-87 twin turbo diesel project :D)

ooh yeah a chevy grille would look better imho or some aluminum inserts in a bodycolor grille shell

When you use the suburban tank do you add a fuel door to the box side or bring it up through the floor?
As for the grill i am still trying to find a chrome one or the 67 C10 front clip that a freind of mine has. I really need a hood though, the front is pretty messed up.
I have a set of grey 91 suburban buckets and console i was considering using. Any thoughts?

Go for it, they're decent looking, grey goes with just about any color and anything that makes it more enjoyable and conmfortable to drive is a good thing.

some people bring it through the floor some use the stake pocket and the realy cool location is having the side marker lamp tilt out ans putting the filler there

Wow lots of ideas here. :) Is there a kit to put the marker or taillight on a hinge? Or is it a fab your own?
You dont like the mirrors? How come? :D (kidding)
If I stay with the 6 bolt wheels, is it the same bolt pattern as the newer GM's with 6 bolt?

paint the steel wheels red put some baby moons on it or snap on moon disc, find a blue you like and paint it if you can't afford base clear then go laq. or enamel for now . I would paint the grille and bumpers in some sort of suede grey for a neat industral look. drop it a little and cruise the tires off that pickup then change it as you get the money most projects have 3-4 versions especially if you build it as you enjoy it!!!!! :D

Thats an idea. I've had a few people that have seen it in my yard tell me to drop a stroker in it the way it is and go out and go out and beat on some of those ricers runnin around. :) I just want it to be a cruiser though, i already have my street strip toys. Even thought of using it to trailer my s10 to the track.
