OK normally we pull the valve covers with engine running and adjust our valves if they make a little noise but im trying to get my wife's 97 cavalier running and i just replaced the head gasket and the book said to torque the rocker arms to 22 ftlbs so i did and i have a few rattling like crazy so i pulled the valve cover off and checked them again and still rattles but this time there was poping like metal catching on somthing so i backed them off a little one at a time and did it like i would my 350 and i still cant get 2 of them to shut up. what could be wrong here. its a 2.2 ohv and its not quite a hot rod but its her hot rod and I'd like it out of my shop.

had a similar situation before changing valve seals on a buddys jeep. It had the old 2.5 iron duke. Torqued the rockers to spec and it ticked like a singer sewing machine. Drove it around the block a few times, getting on it and putting a load on the motor and it eventually quit. That would be my only suggestion is to do the same, if you already havent. Good luck!
