Guy is selling his Satajet HVLP model NR95 with 1.3 tip. He wants $80. Gun is in decent overall shape, comes with mini regulator and large aluminum cup.
Any opinions?
Thanks

Thanks Milo for the reply.
What paints is this gun useful for? I've got some single stage I'd like to shoot (SPI) and they specifically recommend a 1.4 tip. I'll probably pick the gun up regardless.

Well, I went ahead and bought the gun for $75. Not the cleanest you'll ever find. The aircap and fluid tip look good. The 1 litre aluminum cup was in poor condition and the original Sata regulator's gauge was broken. Still, thought it was worth a gamble.
I'm going to tear it down completely and do a better job of cleaning it, then try a sprayout on an old hood I've got.

I have a nr95 model that has been cleaned more than 5000 times and still shoots perfect... It has an internal air regulator that should be set at full open if you use the add on..I did replace the nylon type cup once and remember it was $60 alone.

Heres a fun thread that every project in it was sprayed with the Sata NR95..including primer, base and clear..count them if you can lol

Milo, thanks for the encouraging reply. What size tip or tips have you used in the gun?
I've already got a spare litre cup that will fit. It's an Astro brand. I can get a gauge from work.
Can't wait to try this gun.

Hate to rain on your parade, but I had use of one of those when I was painting my 34. To be quite frank, my Harbor Freight 43430 sprayed better. The gun was in very good shape and clean.

Edit, went back and checked my post from a few years ago, it was a SataJet 92, not a 95...sorry.

The tip that they come new with is a 1.4 though it isn't marked..
Any gun that can be cleaned over a thousand times and still go back together and spray without stripped threads etc, is a good gun.
Some of the knock off guns fail at the first cleaning and never spray the same way twice...

Store your guns with a bit of thinner (1oz) in them in an upright position .. The Sata I use almost daily has never been dry (13 years now http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/i-need-good-paint-gun-72025.html?highlight=weapon+choice )

Fish..... If you don't like that Sata, contact me and I will give you the $75 that you paid for it. I have used both, and there is no comparison between the HF gun and a Sata 95. The HF gun, if you get a good one, is possibly good for a couple of projects, before the quality goes out the door. The Sata, if almost taken care of will last for a long time. If really taken care of, it will last a lifetime.

That's something for me to consider, but most likely, I'll be hanging onto it.
Thanks for the offer.

Do you guys think it would be worth it to buy a 1.4 tip and aircap for it?
I'm going to spray SPI single stage black. Of course, I'm going to give it a decent spray test before committing to use it for my project. Also, typically, what distance do you recommend from gun to surface being painted with this Sata?
I've got to get a new gauge for the mini Sata regulator on it. I was impressed with the quality of the old gauge. Had some heft to it, all metal, not like the plastic mini regs Harbor Freight supplies with its' guns.

Yep, it says Sata NR95 1.3 on the aircap.

hmmmm.........$85................not yet, but thanks for the offer.

And, Milo, I looked at most of the projects shown on that post you linked.
Very impressive, to say the least!

I'd spray some of that SS first with it before making a judgment.
I've shot a lot of SPI's SS and with a 1.3 does fine, just have to go a little slower so you get enough on panel for good flow out. If you have some Universial Clear & Slow cat. try it instead,Same thing.
Rumor had it that Sata's tip size was downsized in order to be compliant with the rest of the World, mostly Australia and "some" 1.3's ARE 1.4's. :mwink:
Is it a "real" regulator or a choke valve?

To get you the best answer I cleaned the over spray that has been protecting the gauge glass for many years..

Then did a blind test while triggering and marking the gauge with a Sharpie.

27-30 lbs at the gun with the trigger pulled..
(the mark starts at the rim of the gauge in the pictures)

9 inches from the panel moving at one foot per second..

Once you get the fluid knob set, lock it in place and leave it just like that for good..(all the way in and then back out 2 and a half turns for a start) .then adjust your primer, base and clear to the same viscosity so they all spray the same..
Use the fan adjustment to "fill" a pattern on a test.

shoot loose

You know all the years I have painted, I have never used a Sata.. I have never even held one in person I dont believe.. Almost bought one a few years back, until I found out how much the tip sets were.. Not that I would wear one out, but I have been known to drop a tip or two in my day and have to replace them :D

One of these days I am going to have to shoot something with one of those guns
