i have a 79 camaro with the factory 8 track am/fm stereo.(yes 8 track) i put 3 sets of 6by9's in the rear and every pair sounds blown. is there any reason for this?

Probably the crappy sound out of that 8 track.

Hey, I loved 'em too, but, it's time pal.....let it go.

BTW, i have an 8 track of "American Pie" laying around here somewhere, you want it?

the factory front speaker works like a dream its just the back speakers. they sound fine at low volume but when i turn it up they sound like a huge vibrator. thats a funny way to put it.

You've got to match things up right.

Here's the basic deal that I learned when I put a stereo in my truck (and it worked like a charm):

Find out how many watts per channel you're pumping out. If your stereo puts out 20 watts per channel, you want 40 watt rms (or more) speakers ... notice that's rms, not what's advertised on the box! _ I wound up buying Sony Xplod Speakers -- on the box, it says 160 watts, but the true rms rating (found in the brochure specs) is 50 watts -- see what I mean?

I can crank my volume, treble *and* bass knobs full blast and get NO distortion.

Have you considered the amp is bad in the radio. Hook up your front speaker wires to your rear speakers and see what happens. If the rear speakers work when connected to the front channel radio output it means most likely the rear channel outputs are toast. Switch the wires right at the radio so that the front speaker outputs go to the rear speakers. If the rear speakers still don't work right could be the wires themselves going to the rear deck speakers or you've got some really mismatched speakers back there.

i think the problem is that YOU HAVE 8 SPEAKERS WIRED UP TO A OLD 8 TRACK THAT IS ONLY MADE FOR 2 OR 4 SPEAKERS, WITH 6 OF THOSE SPEAKERS ON THE BACK TWO CHANNELS............
but thats just me

The reason they sound good low is that is all the power your radio has. If you want to keep the stock radio go and buy a 4 channel amp that has a line level input. What that means is it will take the powered signal from the radio and knock it down then amplify that signal. Your front speakers sound OK because they do not take much power to drive them, your stock radio is more than likely putting out 4 or 5 watts per channel and your rear speakers are wanting 30 or more. Now when you add an amp you will need to change the front speakers or you will blow them.

Now that is assuming that your radio is working, you could have a bad rear output and that is why the fronts are OK and the rears are bad, to test this just switch the wires. If the rears sound good and the fronts bad then you need a new radio.

one in the front 2 in the back. i know what you mean though.
oh i thought you had 3 sets of speakers in the car.
my bad.
its most likely your amp. they don't last forever you know.
i had a kenwood cd player that the amp went out on after a year.
don't ever buy anything kenwood, because it sucks.

I have a Sony CD player. it loses memory of the treble sometimes. CarToys doesn't sell Sony anymore because they had to replace too many of them.:( It could use an amp, but other than that it works good.

Blawpunkt(Bosch), Yamaha and Panasonic make the best stereo/CD equipment.

I am a car audio/video/alarm installer for a living. Assuming the 3 sets of 6x9's are each single 4ohm you are running a that 8 track player at 1.33ohm stereo load. Sorry but not many aftermarket decks will power that more less a 25 year old 8 track player.

Get you a cd player and get an amp. There are many great brands of quality equipment out there. Perosnaly I run all Eclipse proccesing and singal equipment (deck, eq, amps). All there stuff comes with a 1 year theift replacement warrenty and a 3 year defect warrenty. And they stand behind it.

You can go all over the country and ask what is the best stuff on the market and every place get a different answer. Our store carries many top names and many mid level stuff to cover people who dont have the money for high end. Go to your local shop and just talk to them and get you some ideas

speakers

when speakers are not recieving enough power they can sound bad and distort quickly when you turn it up, also when they are overpowered ofcoarse but that isnt your current problem. Since you are installin a deck, depending on which on and of what quality you might have internal crossovers so u can filter out certain sounds. If you are looking for a set of real nice speakers check out kicker or alpines component systems.
