How about paint remover or lacquer thinner ? Russ

If it is that hard to get off, paint over it..........it makes a good base for paint to stick to..........better than bare metal

 

Welcome to the site 39chevysacramento. :welcome: Make sure to scuff the original paint up so the new paint will get a good bond. As well make sure that old paint is perfectly clean as the new paint won't stick well to impegrated oil and dirt. I gather that that engine is going in your 37 chevy. Good luck with your project.

Zip Strip or Aircraft stripper from your local Ace, True Value or Walmart will do the trick.

 

If you can find "real" Aircraft Stripper, It will take it off. Good stuff !!!! Used it recently to remove clearcoat off old aluminum wheels, works great. Perry.

 

Restoring engine and used 2 cans of oven cleaner to remove previous paint jobs! Paint will not come off any suggestions?

By "restoring" I assume you mean a complete rebuild. If so, then hot-tank it and there will be no paint left. If you're gonna rebuild the block should be hot-tanked anyway.
