Do you all think that the Summit/Jegs brands of intakes are equal in performance to say Edlebrock in the same style intakes?

The low end stuff is generally all cast in china. Summit/Jegs Holley etc jus tmark it up and sell it to you. You can get those manifolds for about $100 shipped to your door off aliexpress and they are dimensionally the exact same product.

This same "Holley" intake is $430 from summit.

If you use the current coupons you can get the same thing for under $100 shipped.

IF the item is defective upon arrival you can simply send it back. I've had to do this on a few chian products. Aliexpress is very good about that. Its like a Chinese Amazon in that aspect.

They are the exact same dimensions as the HOlley. So all things like 0-rings and hardware copy right over.

Other than that, its a very large stout chunk of cast alum. Not too much that can go wrong.

I looked at a variety of items, and I do agree that it could be worth taking a chance. One of the items I was interested in were wheels for one of my cars. Just not sure I could get exactly what would fit properly. As it happens...not everything is made in China. I have bought items and found a label inside (probably a mistake) that said the item was made some place else. Had I not already bought Edelbrock, I would consider the experiment.

While that is good to know, my issue was with the "Wheels" I was looking at. Yes an intake is just a big chunk of Aluminum, if it doesn't fit right, you could send it back. But even Amazon now has "Hoops" to jump through depending on what the item is. And Amazon has a ton of places you can return items to, but even that has limits. I didn't get far enough into the Aliexpress Website to find any of the shipping or returns information, that being said, I would hate to order a set of wheels and find out after they arrived there was a problem. What one company says fits X may actually only fit Y and Z. All of the Wheels I have bought online came with specific instructions to make sure the wheels fit the vehicle properly. Not returnable if tires have been mounted.

Something to think about: Chinese manufacturers are supported by their government. That's the way things work in socialist countries. Our manufacturers are the result of the free enterprise system which drives our capitalist economy. The USA manufacturers did all the homework to design and build a product that performs well, and the Chinese basically stole the design and reproduced it in their sweatshops. They could care less if this practice results in the ultimate failure of the American business who will have no way to recover their R&D/marketing costs. I'm as stingy as the next guy when it comes to spending my money, but I'm proud to have the Edelbrock logo on my intake. It's my contribution to this hobby which I want to be around for awhile.

I'd agree if that were actually the case.

Before making assumptions about a company though, just do some quick research on them. Neither Holley or Edelbrock are independently owned by US families anymore. In some cases all we are doing is going around the middle man (greedy rich share holders) making 300%+ profit. I'm not saying China has never stolen designs and copied them. Or stating we should all buy from China. I'm simply stating its good practice to research the "US companies" you are standing behind.

Holley is now a horrible company run by horrible people in my opinion. Its a publicly traded/owned. They simply want to buy low and sell high. 90% of the owners wouldn't know what an intake manifold was! They are using Holleys established name so they can mark up the products. The majority of the profit isn't going back into our economy or making jobs for US citizens. Its going to the shareholders. Many of which aren't even us citizens.

This is why I have no qualms going around "Holley" and going straight to the source. These days Most Holley items are built in China at the same factory that makes the "clone" manifolds I linked above. Its not a clone, its the exact same product.

Edelbrock is much better, but also not US family owned anymore. They sold out in 2010 and are a "private equity backed company". They have no legal obligation to disclose detailed ownership or shareholder breakdowns. But appear to be making most of their products here in the US. Which is why I support them and run many of their products. I have their intakes on both my cars as well.

Edelbrock used to use Buddy Barr castings for the intake manifold castings and the cylinder head castings. its been well over 15 years since I did work directly with Barr, so I cant comment on anything recently if that is still the case.

the speed industry today isnt the private held companies of yesteryear. most of the originators simply got to retirement age and wanted to set off in their golden years with mailbox money coming in from patent royalties and dividend checks.
