a couple of days ago i ask if anyone had ideas i didn't know about for prepping new valve springs and machine shop tom gave me a good idea.at the shop he uses a parts cleaner tumbler and it made me think of a way to tumble them at home.i used an old approx. gal. sized tupperware container and took the dampers out of the springs and put the springs and dampers in the container with phone book cover sized card board and a hand full of new 3/8's nuts.i taped the container shut very well and put it in the dryer with a bunch of rugs and ran them thru a complete cycle.the cardboard cleans and buffers the affects of the steel hitting steel.it takes the sharp edges off the spring coils and damper ends.you still need to run the ends of the springs over fine emery paper and radius the ends of the damper with the grinder of your choice.i used the bench grinder,dremel type grinder and finally a fine file.i've done it using shop tools only but liked this better.its for people who don't have access to all the pro tools.i hope it helps some one.it could be used for other things too.

My wife gets mad at me when I put silly things in the dryer. Ink pens, washers, loose change, paper clips, wallets, work clothes, things like that really bug her!
