Think performance.

Chevy finely got it right with the Vortec heads. Factory high performance heads for the masses!

Taller ports, high compression heads with a port design that is able to flow the good numbers without huge valves. For built motors, additional work is required for high lift cams. Hi po springs are required as well. The Vortec heads require a special Vortec intake manifold, and use but 8 bolts to hold them to the block. Here is a pix of the heart shaped Vortec combustion chamber. Notice how much of the chamber volume is taken up by the spark plug boss. Long reach plugs are required in Vortec heads.

Just remember a few additional hints:

1. The word is VORTEC... not Vortex :nono:
2. Caps are not a kewl kinda font. Using all caps tells everyone you are a dork and just got your computer. Don't type in all Caps unless you are pissed off or something... and then also expect to catch hell for it anyways.

His 2001 truck does NOT have the L31 Vortec 350 heads you are talking about. His truck is a GEn 3 4.8 L engine LS1 based engine.

Teh Vortec terminology started way back in 1986.

Yes the GEn 3 engines are referred to as Vortec engine, as are the 2007+ GEN 4 engines.
GM started calling the V8 engines Vortec's in 1996, although GM started calling their V6' Vortec way back in 1986.

Yes the GEN 3 heads are a fine head, and will outflow a GEN 1E Vortec L31 head by quite a bit.

GEN 1 1955-1995
The following are refrred to a Vortec engines.
GEN 1E 1996-2002 Vortec 305(L30) 350(L31)
GEN 2 1992-1997 265 and 5.7 L L99 and LT1/LT4
GEn 3 1997-2007 4.8,5.3,5.7,6.0 LR4,LM7/L33,LS1, LQ4/LQ9
GEN 4 2005+ 4.8,5.3,6.0,6.2,7.0

When some says they have a set of Vortec heads, they are referring to a set of Vortec 305 L30 or Vortec 350 L31 heads.
When someone says they have a set of 5.3 or 4.8 heads they are referring to the GEn 3 heads.
the GEn 1E Vortec heads came out 1st and such were coined VOrtec heads, unfortunatley this leads to much confusion.

Has anyone EVEr called the LS7 a Vortec engine? or the LS9? That's like calling a Corvette a Chevy truck... literally.

So, you stole it from a widow?... Swell.... I can only hope it develops a short and burns to the ground before you get insurance on it.
bad kharma
will come back around and bite you, tech. YOU have spoken evil upon yourself.
It is the law of the universe taught in most every religion including Christianity. Jesus taught it.

It doesn't matter if you believe it or not..... it is still truth.

but not in Islam/Muslim.... they are instructed to curse others.= look it up.

Vortec is a made up marketing brand name and means nothing beyond that. Pretty much every engine Chevy has sold in their trucks in the last decade or so has been called a Vortec. This is just like Olds calling all their V8s Rocket engines. It's only a marketing term. Don't get excited about it.
