I am planning to install wheel tubs, ladder bars, and coil overs into a 79 camaro. Does anyone know (roughly) what it costs to have a shop narrow the rear end housing a few inches. (Not including Axles or rebuild)

I agree with Roy, the 10-bolt is not worth spending the $$ on. Find a good 12-bolt and you will be much better off. Price for narrowing the housing varies greatly, from what I have seen. Usually if around $100.00 to $150.00, but BEWARE. This is best done with a jig of some sort, which includes a machined shaft, anchored by the carrier caps. This will ensure that the housing ends are welded back on true to the carrier. Otherwise, you will have problems with wheel bearings.

BEWARE: Some GM 10 bolt rears have tapered axles. Therefore, once the spline end is shortened, it no longer fits back into the female end of the carrier because it's too fat. I found out the hard way and had to switch to a 9" ford. It would have been do-able, but the cost would have been ridiculous.
