Whats the best material for making a headliner board?

I'm in need of doing the headliner in the Jag, the board in the car now is so large it's really hard to remove it without either removing the rear window or bending it to the point that it will crease. I was wondering is there is a better material that is more flexible than this fiberboard? Also I want to put a layer of insulation in the roof, if I do it will lower the headliner a 1/4 inch. I would like to make the board thinner so the headliner remains in it's stock height. Also do I put the insulation against the steel part of the roof or inside against the fiberboard?
The other question I have is can I make a 2 board that will fit in properly that can fold easily for installation.
I have 6 yards of headliner material that us not foam backed, but I would like to use foam to help cover up any creases in the board. Can I use standard foam and adhere it to the fabric?

If its a molded board that fits your roof, I would do anything humanly possible to reuse that board. One, because you will never be able to buy a new board, and second because it would very hard to make a new molded board, basically because you are working upside down trying to make a new board. You could essentially make it out of fiberglass, but would be damn near impossible once again to make it upside in the car. Your best bet is to remove the headliner board now, if it creases then so be it. I have pulled out many headliners that have cracked and creased. Simply reinforce it with fiberglass resin and a little fiberglass mat on the backside. And yes, 1/4" foam will hide any crack or creases, just dont work the foam into the cracks.

Yeah I think your right Kris, Do you have a good source for the 1/4 inch foam? Also is there something better than the stuff that turns to dust in a few years?

There prices are a little high, i could sell the same foam to you cheaper than they sell it for.

The foam that backs regular headliner material is the cheapest grade foam available, any uphoilstery grade foam would work fine.
